Inside Out Project |Artists in Schools-PTO
Group Action leader |Co-Chairperson
Inspired by the installation of our new playground, the students and staff were doing a lot of thinking about the benefits of 'playing'.
When we play with an idea, we approach it without reserve. Uninhibited by rules, we flip it around, turn it upside down and inside out and just …see what happens.
This is how some of our most powerful discoveries are made.
Through play we challenge ourselves to become ‘expert’.
This is true, whether you are an adult playing with words, numbers and ideas or you are a child playing with Legos and hula hoops.
Play is a powerful thing.
Here, the artist JR presents his award-winning TED talk about using art to turn the world Inside Out.

The Pinhole Project |Montrose Elementary 5th Grade

Mrs. Addington and Mrs. Williams were covering a science unit about the properties of light.
They graciously let me set up a darkroom at the back of the class and then allowed me to work with the kids for lengthy amounts of time creating cameras, taking pictures and developing the negatives. This project was a lot more about the process than it was about the final piece.
Both were quite rewarding.
There are many different pinhole camera enthusiasts out there. If you are interested in learning more, this is a good place to start:

Mrs. Sexton used these oracle bones to help stage an archeological dig for her 6th grade social studies unit.
Here is a link to a great animated explanation of how oracle bones were used in ancient china. http://www.ancientchina.co.uk/writing/explore/oraclebone.html
